Client: Sock!t
The Challenge
Sock!t needed a social engagement platform focused on polling — supporting companies, groups, and individuals posting polls from any device with analytical tools to gain insights from results. The project required end-to-end delivery from brand creation through to a scalable web application capable of supporting a large user base.
Our Approach
- Led concept development workshops, then designed brand guidelines, wireframes, and data architecture.
- Backend development using Node.js with scalable relational databases and APIs for high-responsiveness.
- Frontend development using React with a tailored component set, sounds, flexible scoring, and engagement features.
- Optimised for sharing video and image-based polls with comments, likes, and participation incentives.
The Outcome
The Sock!t web app operated from 2020–2023 as a social polling and data collection platform, offering users a fun experience answering and posting polls to public and private groups. The scalable backend architecture proved robust through the platform's active lifetime.
Key Takeaways
- Social platforms live or die on engagement mechanics — sounds, scoring, and participation loops matter.
- End-to-end delivery (brand through to scalable app) gives coherence that assembled approaches lack.
- Well-typed backend APIs are the foundation for rapid frontend iteration on engagement features.
